Abstract

Currently, electrical energy is a very important primary need in life. Micro hydro power plant (PLTMH) is a power plant that uses water energy as the main source to generate electricity. The Pelton turbine is very suitable for PLTMH because this power plant is small in scale. In this study, the authors made a prototype of the PLTMH using a Pelton turbine by varying the number of turbine buckets. In testing prototype using variations in the number of buckets, namely 18 buckets, 20 buckets, and 22 buckets with a 3 watt LED light load and the speed of water used to rotate the turbine is 0.00091 m3/s. The results of the measurement of the highest rotational speed were obtained by a 22 bucket turbine with a value of 6366 Rpm while the lowest speed was obtained by an 18 bucket turbine with a value of 5071 Rpm. From the results of measuring the output voltage and current using a multimeter based on the test results with a total of 22 buckets producing the highest power of 1.8681 watts while testing with a total of 18 buckets produces the lowest power of 1.3151 watts. This is based on the connection between power and current, where the power generated is directly proportional to the current value. The electric power generated will be greater if the value of the current in the circuit is also greater.
