Abstract

Cultural Diplomacy is the state's effort to fight for its national interests through culture such as education, sports, science, and the arts like what has been done by South Korea. One of the ways South Korea promotes culture is through overseas representatives in host countries. Methodist 1 Palembang High School which has Korean foreign language subjects has teachers directly from South Korea. As language is part of a very basic means of communication, it becomes important in the process of cultural diplomacy. Methodist 1 High School has a comparative study program to South Korea which allows them to experience firsthand the cultural diplomacy efforts carried out by South Korea. This study aims to find out more about the implications of South Korean Cultural Diplomacy through the Comparative Studies program at Methodist High School. The method that used are descriptive qualitative analysis research method and the data sources used are primary data through unstructured interviews and secondary data obtained through books, journals, documents, articles, reports, and various other media. Based on the research study, the implications of South Korean cultural diplomacy through comparative study programs at Methodist 1 High School are through cultural implications, globalization implications and practical implications that are able to change the mindset from South Korea which were only based on hallyu idol kpop culture but to also as a developed country, high quality education, and diverse culture through direct introduction from South Korean students. Therefore, a sense of trust and a positive image towards South Korea is increasing, with that the implications of South Korean cultural diplomacy are quite good.
