Abstract

One way of promoting economic growth is through development of basic commodity,such as rubber, coffee, palm oil, and coal which will be able to compete in international market. The competitiveness of these commodities is supposed to have an impact on economic growth of provinces in the south part of Sumatera.Data used in this study are panel data consist of time series from 2010 to 2016 and individual cross-section of five provinces. Multiple regression model is used to estimate the effect of competitiveness on economic growth using random effect estimation method. The results of study show that competitiveness of each commodity significantly and positively affects economic growth of provinces in south part of Sumatera.
