Abstract

Pesawat cekat adalah salah satu pesawat orthodonti yang cara pemakaiannya di dalam rongga mulut dengan melekatkan alat-alat orthodonti pada gigi-geligi. Walaupun perawatan orthodonti cekat diketahui memberikan keuntungan namun ada hal-hal yang tidak diketahui oleh pemakai pesawat orthodonti cekat bahwa kehadiran pesawat cekat tersebut dapat menimbulkan kelainan-kelainan rongga mulut, terutama gingivitis. Kelainan-kelainan ini dapat terjadi akibat efek mekanik maupun akibat pertambahan mikroorganisme dalam rongga mulut Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui berapa besar prevalensi gingivitis pada pengguna pesawat orthodonti cekat di lingkungan mahasiswa Program Studi kedokteran Gigi Universitas Sriwijaya. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah survey deskriptif berupa sampling survey dan merupakan jenis penelitian non eksperimental. Hasil penelitian pada 71 orang sampel penelitian menunjukkan bahwa prevalensi gingivitis pada pengguna pesawat orthodonti cekat di lingkungan mahasiswa Program studi Kedokteran Gigi Universitas Sriwijaya adalah 100%, yang terdiri dari 41 orang (57,7%), tergolong kategori derajat ringan, 27 orang (39,4%) tergolong derajat sedang dan 3 orang (4,2%) tergolong derajat berat. Hal ini bisa mengakibatkan efektivitas penggunaan pesawat orthodonti cekat berkurang. Oleh karena itu perawatan orthodonti cekat perlu direncanakan dan dilaksanakan dengan cermat, serta selalu mengedepankan aspek oral hygiene, sehingga dapat mendukung tercapainya tujuan perawatan orthodonti tersebut.
