Abstract

Penelitian yang dilakukan bertujuan untuk mengetahui sifat fisik dan mekanik papan partikel yang terbuat dari ampas tebu dan sabut kelapa. Penelitian dilaksanakan di Bengkel Jurusan Teknologi Pertanian, Fakultas Pertanian Universitas Sriwijaya dan Laboratorium Teknik Mesin Politeknik Sriwijaya dari bulan Juli 2010 sampai dengan November 2010. Metode yang digunakan pada penelitian adalah metode pengolahan data secara deskriptif dan penyajian hasil berupa tabel dan grafik. Penelitian yang dilakukan menggunakan bahan yaitu A = 250 g ampas tebu, 50 g sabut kelapa, dan 150 g polivinil asetat; B = 200 g ampas tebu, 100 g sabut kelapa, dan 150 g polivinil asetat dan; C = 150 g ampas tebu, 150 g sabut kelapa, dan 150 g polivinil asetat. Parameter yang diamati adalah kadar air, pengembangan tebal, pengujian tarik, dan kuat tekan papan partikel. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan papan partikel yang paling baik terdapat pada papan partikel C dengan komposisi 150 g ampas tebu dan 150 g sabut kelapa dengan rata-rata kadar air 9,35 %, pengembangan tebal 10,45 %, modulus elastisitas 0,129 N/mm2, serta kuat tekan sebesar 40,17 kg/cm2
