Abstract

Roadconstructionintheswampyareashouldcertainlyfacemanyproblemsrelatedtothesoilcharacteristics thatarecomposedofsoftsoils.Theunderstandingofsoilconditiontoswampareasisneededtodetermine theroadtraceandcanbedoneusingtheremotesensingtechnology.TheuseofNormalizedDifferenceSoil Index(NDSI)methodisanalternativetothecharacterizingofthesoilcondition.Thelocationofsoilsampling isdeterminedbyNDSI,whilethespecificgravity, propertyindex, andsoiltextureisanalyzedbylaboratory analysis.TheclassificationofsolidconditionusingNDSImethodoncompositeband65obtainedtherange of reflectance values ranging (-1.0336) ? (-0.4582) for water body, (-0.4582) ? (-0.0645) for not openspaces and (-0.0645) ? (0.4300) for open spaces. The classification of soil characteristics in the swamp area in Banyuasin regency consists of 3 classes, which are clay type with diameter <0.002 mm, medium soil with diameter 0.002 ? 0.075 mm, and slightly rough for fine sandy soil with diameter 0.075 ? 0.425 mm. In addition, in the study area, the peat depth is approximately measured as 50 ? 100 cm and 100 ? 200cm
