Abstract

The java combtail (Belontia hasselti) is a swamp fish that has economic value and has the potential to be cultivated. Apart from being a consumption fish, this fish also has the potential to be developed as an ornamental fish. The number of people who still catch java combtail from the wild is feared to cause a decrease in the population and even lead to the extinction of the java combtail (Belontia hasselti) in the wild. Therefore, efforts are needed to produce java combtail outside their natural environment. This study aims to determine the proper sex ratio of males and females in the semi-natural spawning of java combtail using gonadthropins. It is hoped that with the right sex ratio, cultivators can increase the production of java combtail through semi-natural spawning. This research was conducted at the Aquaculture Laboratory, Aquaculture Study Program, Faculty of Agriculture, Sriwijaya University. From October until November 2021, this study used a completely randomized design (CRD) with 4 sex ratio treatments which were repeated 3 times, namely T1 (1 male: 1 female), T2 (2 males: 1 female), T3 (3 males: 1 female) and T4 (4 males: 1 female). The dose of ovaprim used was 0,5 ml kg-1. The results showed that the (T1) treatment, 1 male and 1 female, was the best treatment by producing highest fecundity is 326 eggs, percentage of eggs fertilization 91.36% and the highest egg hatching percentage of 43.23% with water quality parameters during the study ranging from temperature 27,1-30oC, pH 5,2-6,7 and DO 3,7-5,2 ppm. Latency time parameters in each treatment did not significantly affect the ratio of different male and female parents.
