Abstract

This study aims to study the effect of groundwater level on the distribution of Palm Oil roots in swamps and study the influence of water content, bulk density, total pore space and soil texture on the distribution of Palm Oil roots in swamp land. This study used an observation method. The data obtained in the form of soil color, groundwater level, soil texture, moisture content, bulk density, and total pore space are presented in the form of tables and figures and discussed in a descriptive way. To determine the effect of swamp distance and groundwater level depth on the distribution of Palm Oil roots, a T-test was carried out with a real level of 5%. In addition, pearson correlation (r) and linier regression tests were carried out between the values of soil physical properties to the distribution of Palm Oil roots per soil depth. The results showed that the level of groundwater level did not have a significant effect on the value of Palm Oil root distribution. The physical properties of the soil in the form of color, moisture content, total pore space have a positive correlation with the distribution value of the Palm Oil roots. But the value of bulk density has a negative correlation with the value of the distribution of Palm Oil roots. In this study, it was also found that the texture of sandy loam soil with rather coarse criteria found at a depth of 30 cm had a positive relationship to the distribution of Palm Oil roots, while at depths of 60 cm and 90 cm it had a sandy clay soil texture, spiced clay to clay which had successive criteria of being rather fine, fine and very fine which had a negative correlation to the distribution of Palm Oil roots. Keywords: Root Distribution, Groundwater Level, Physical Properties of Soil.
