Abstract
Membrane Electrode Assembly (MEA) resistance test with Pt-Ru/C catalysts on multi stack Direct Methanol Fuel Cell (DMFC) have been carried out. Manufacture of electrodes with Pt-Ru/C catalysts with the method of Spraying. The electrode are made and chactarized using Cyclic Voltametry (CV) to determine the catalytic activity of the electrode based on the value Electrochemical Surface Area (ECSA) and the method Electrochemical Impedance Spectroscopy (EIS) to determine the value of their electrical conductivity. The Membrane Electrode Assembly (MEA) is made of two electrodes with an electrolyte membrane. MEA was tested for its performance, resistance with load variations in Direct Methanol Fuel Cell (DMFC) using methanol as fuel. Based on the result of the characterization of the catalytic activity measurement, the ECSA value of the Pt-Ru/C electrode was 194,935 (cm2/gram). While testing with the EIS method, the value of the Pt/C electrode conductivity was 1.301 × 10-3 S/cm and Pt-Ru/C was 6.042 × 10-3 S/cm. The MEA resistance test at varying loads for 3 hours showed that at a load of 10 mA the voltage was decreasing from 2.59 V to 2.24 V after an additional load of 20 mA. Testing for 14 hours the load voltage becomes 0.002 V.
