Abstract

This research analyzed correlation between parents’ socio-economic status and the level of juvenile delinquency at the Special Development Institute of Children Class I Palembang in 2019.The purpose of this research was to find out information about parents’ socio economic status of adolescents at the Special Development Institute of Children Class I Palembang in 2019, knowing the level of delinquency at the Special Development Institute of Children Class I Palembang in 2019, and analyzing the relationship between parents’ socio economic status and the level of juvenile delinquency at the Special Development Institute of Children Class I Palembang in 2019. This research used quantitative methods with explanatory research type that explained correlation between one variable and another variable. The sample in this study was teenagers who were undergoing coaching at the Special Development Institute of Children Class I Palembang in 2019, with total 78 people. Total sampling techniques was sampling techniques used by researcher. The data collection methods used were questionnaire methods, literature studies, and interviews. The result of this research showed that the level of parents’ socio-economic status at the Special Development Institute of Children Class I Palembang was dominated by the socio-economic status of the lower class by 61.53 percent, juvenile delinquency in the Special Development Institute of Children Class I Palembang in the dominance of the delinquency rate was very heavy at 89.6 percent, and the results of the relationship analysis used the Product Moment correlation test showed that there was an inverse correlation between the variable parents’ socio-economic status and the level of juvenile delinquency. It was based on the results of the significance value obtained <0.05 on each independent variable indicator associated with the dependent variable and for the relationship between parents’ socio-economic status and the level of juvenile delinquency showing the result of a significance value of 0.000 <0.05 and a correlation coefficient value of -0.922**, it means there was a significant correlation and had a strong degree of correlation between the parents’ socio-economic status and juvenile delinquency with the direction of the inverse relationship. It showed that H1 was accepted, means that adolescents with low socio-economic status of their parents were more at risk of committing acts against the law in Indonesia.
