Abstract
This study aims to describe the forms of violation of the principles of cooperation and implicature in the February 2021 edition of Mata Najwa on YouTube social media and their implications for Indonesian language learning. This study uses descriptive qualitative methods, pragmatic approaches, and descriptive statistical data analysis techniques. The data source for this research is the video uploaded by Mata Najwa in the February 2021 edition on YouTube social media. The results showed that there were 4 forms of violation of the cooperative principle in the Mata Najwa event which consisted of 32 speech data. The 32 speech data includes 11 speech data for violating the maxim of quantity, 5 data for violating the maxim of quality, 9 data for violating the maxim of relevance and 7 speech data for violating the maxim of implementation. The implicatures contained in this study have 2 data and are included in conversational implicatures. The results of this study can be implied in the Indonesian language learning debate material in class X Senior High School (SMA) semester 2 in Basic Competence (KD) 3.13 with the contents "Analyzing the content of the debate (problems/issues, points of view and arguments of several parties, and conclusions)” (Education, Culture, & Indonesia, 2018).
