Abstract

Background : Stroke is the third leading cause of death after heart disease and cancer worldwide with a prevalence of 15 million people every year. Hemorrhagic stroke is a stroke which is caused by a cerebral artery bleeding into the tissue in the brain which causes damage to the brain and impaired nerve function. Stroke patients with decreased consciousness will experience airway clearance problems due to accumulation of secretions Aims : to apply nursing care to patients with hemorrhagic stroke. Methods : The type of research in this report is a qualitative method with a case study approach. Results : It was found that the three patients had respiratory problems, so they had to install a tracheostomy and a ventilator. The three patients had several nursing problems, namely ineffective airway clearance, ineffective breathing pattern, impaired gas exchange, risk of ineffective cerebral perfusion, impaired ventilator weaning, impaired physical mobility, impaired verbal communication, risk of nutritional deficit, risk of pressure sores, risk of infection, acute pain, impaired skin integrity, self-care deficit and impaired comfort. The main intervention that is made is airway management by doing suction. Conclusion : After suctioning patient seemed calmer because it reduced secretions. However, the problem is still not resolved, because there is still sputum production and the intervention is still continuing. Keywords : hemorrhagic stroke, suction, ineffective airway clearance
