Abstract

The purposes of this research are : (1) to identify the internal and external factors underlying the decision of the farmer to convert the old rubber farm land into pepper and chilli agricultural land in Karang Lantang Village Of Muara Jaya Sub District Ogan Komering Ulu Regency, (2) to calculate farmer’s conversion and non-converting earnings differences with observing the payback period and market price, (3) Analyzing the expedience of farming business refers to income and income assumptions according to the Karang Lantang Village Of Muara Jaya Sub District Ogan Komering Ulu Regency. The selection of research location was done purposively. Data collecting process done in June 2017. This research use survey method. The data consist of primary and secondary data. Primary data obtained by direct interviews to farmers with the help of questionnaires. While secondary data obtained from relevant institution such as Plantation Office, as well as some literature that support and relate to the research. The result of this reseach indicate that the factors significantly influence the farmer’s decision in converting the old rubber farm into pepper and chilli farming was the number of dependents with 0.081 significant value and age of farmer people of their family with 0.146 significant value. The production based on the analysis result shows that the income of farmers who convert the old rubber farm into pepper and chilli farming was bigger than non-conversion farmer's income where the difference was Rp. 43.121.568,46 per hectar in a year. Based on calculations using NPV shows that chilli And pepper farming were very worthy to do where the NPV value was 422,113,306.65 than the rubber plant where the NPV value was 223,212,525.80.
