Abstract

Visual novel is one of computer game’s genre that has a different yet simple gameplay compare to others, where the player choose one from some choices that are given by the game itself and it leads the plot of the story. The difference on the game play makes an impact to the player experience. One of the way to know how is the player experience is through evaluating the playability. The evaluation is done using two methods, Game Flow and UGALCO so that scope of the elements that evaluated is larger. The two methods applied on the test bed game which built through this research and a game which has released. The evaluation is done through giving translated questionnaire which includes 37 questions from both methods to 52 participants. The result showed that the game that was built specifically for this research has the playability value at 3.31 within Game Flow’s 0-5 range and 0.68 within UGALCO 0-1 range. Based on the analysis that has been done on this research, the visual novel elements which bring the biggest impact to the playability value are the challenge and interface of the game.
