Abstract
This study aims to study soybean response to inoculation of Rhizobium and water modification in peat soil. Current research was conducted at Experimental Station of Faculty of Agriculture, Sriwijaya University, from November 2017 to February 2018. Characterization of peat soil and root nodule observation were conducted at the Laboratory of Biology, Chemistry and Soil Fertility of the Agricultural Faculty of Sriwijaya University, Indralaya. Current experiment tested two treatments, two levels of Rhizobium inoculation (R0 = no inoculation, R1 = 9 g Rhizobium inoculation polybag-1) and four levels of water table (G1 = -20 cm, G2 = -30 cm, G3 = -40 cm, G4 = -50 cm). Those treatments were arranged in a Factorial Randomized Block Design with three replicates. The results showed that the depth of the water table effect was not significant on growth of soybean. Peat subsidence and N absorption did not show a significant correlation with water table. Inoculation of Rhizobium significantly affected of active nodules. Inoculation of Rhizobium significantly increased N absorption as compared with control. This experiment also showed that combining the modification of water table at -40 cm with the application of Rhizobium improved soybean growth in peat soil.
