Abstract

Silage is a kind of forage preservation with the manufacture principle to stop the contact of forage with oxygen, so in an aerob condition causes acid formed. Not all feed materials made into silage have good quality, so it need to be given silage additive to accelerate ensilage, one of silage additive is lactic acid bacteria inoculant. The purpose of this study was to determine the comparisons of Hymenachne acutigluma silage quality inoculated by EM-4, rumen fluid, and rice rinsed water. This research was held on October until November of 2017 in Animal Nutrition and Feed Laboratory, Agriculture Faculty, Sriwijaya University. This research used Completely randomized Design with 4 treatments and 4 replicates. The treatments were consisted of P0 (Hymenachne acutigluma silage), P1 (Hymenachne acutigluma silage + EM-4), P2 (Hymenachne acutigluma silage + rumen fluid), P3 (Hymenachne acutigluma silage + rice rinsed water). The variable measured were pH, lactic acid bacteria total, acid total, the losses of dry matter and organic matter. The research results showed that treatment had significant (P<0,05) effect on pH, lactic acid bacteria total, acid total, and organic matter losses, but did not significantly (P>0,05) affect dry matter losses. This research concluded that Hymenachne acutigluma silage inoculated with rumen fluid had the best quality, because it had pH value 4,21, total of lactic acid bacteria 8,28 x 107 log/ml, acid total 3,83%, dry matter losses 1,27%, and organic matter losses 1,49%.
