Abstract

Sungkai (Peronema canescens Jack.) belongs to the Verbenaceae of plants native to Indonesia. The content contained in sungkai leaves can be used as an alternative to natural medicines because they are safer and have low side effects. Sungkai is a wild plant, but because this plant has economic value. Propagation of Sungkai plant (Peronema canescens Jack.) through seeds is difficult because it only flowers 1-2 times a year. Vegetative propagation of sungkai by stem cuttings. The obstacle to vegetative propagation of woody plants through cuttings is the difficulty of plant material to form roots. Giving Plant Growth Promoting Rhizobacteria (PGPR) can stimulate natural growth. This research was conducted from January to March 2022. Located at the Experimental House, Department of Biology, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, Sriwijaya University, Indralaya, South Sumatra. Experimental method used was a randomized block design (RBD) with 6 treatments with 5 repetitions. The observation variables were the percentage of live cuttings, the percentage of cuttings sprouting, the percentage of rooted cuttings, time of shoot emergence, number of shoots, shoot height, number of roots, root length and number of leaves. The data obtained were carried out statistically using the Analysis of Variance (Anova), then it would be continued with Duncan's multiple distance test at 5%. Based on the research of sungkai cuttings, soaking using with a concentration of 10 gram/L was best at the time of shoot emergence, a concentration of 50 gram/L gave the best effect on the number of shoots and at a concentration of 20 gram/L the best effect on shoot height and number of leaves. The conclusion of the study was that treatment with immersion gave better results on the growth of sungkai cuttings than without biofertilizer promoting plant growth immersion treatment.
