Abstract

Asian redtail catfish (Hemibagrus nemurus) is one of the freshwater fish that has the potential to be developed as a cultured fish, this fish is favored for consumption because it has thick flesh and no fine spines. Improvements in science and technology are aspects of concern in the development of aquaculture. One of the currently applied cultivation technologies is eggs incubation using a hatching funnel system. The advantage of funnel incubation system is can be applied on small media volumes with high stocking densities. However, eggs stocking density that is too high or too low can be a factor inhibiting the success of eggs hatching. The stocking density in the incubation funnel that is too high it caused limitations in the space for the embryo to move and if the stocking density is too low it caused the movement of eggs too fast because of the wide space gap. The purpose of this study was determine the good stocking densities of asian redtail catfish eggs incubated using a hatching funnel system. This study used 5 treatments with different eggs stocking densities, which are P1 (625 eggs L-1), P2 (725 eggs L-1), P3 (825 eggs L-1), P4 (925 eggs L-1), P5 (1025 eggs L-1). The result showed that the highest hatching percentage was in P4 with 90.49%, length of the hatching period 30.30 hours and survival rate 88.45%. The water quality data of temperature, pH and alkalinity were still within the optimal range for eggs hatching and larva rearing.
