Abstract

Pepper (Piper nigrum L.) is one of the plants that is often used as a spice and traditional medicine and has a high economic value because the commodity of pepper is a source of foreign exchange for the country. To increase the competitiveness of pepper, what can be done is to improve the quality of pepper products through organic cultivation. Aims to optimize the health and productivity of soil, plant, animal and human life. Efforts to improve the quality of pepper cuttings and accelerate the emergence of roots and shoots can be done by using organic fertiliser. Giving organic fertiliser with different concentrations can have different effects on the growth of cuttings of various plants. So it is necessary to do research on how the response to the growth of pepper cuttings by giving the effect of different concentrations of organic fertiliser. This research was conducted from January 2022 to March 2022. Located at the Experimental House, Department of Biology, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, Sriwijaya University, Indralaya, South Sumatra. The research design used was a randomized block design (RBD) with 6 treatments with 5 repetitions. The variables observed were the percentage of live cuttings, the percentage of rooted cuttings, the percentage of cuttings sprouting, time of shoot emergence, number of shoots, shoot height, number of leaves, number of roots and root length. The data obtained then perform a statistical analysis using the Analysis of Variance (Anova), then it would be continued with Duncan’s multiple distance test at 5%. Based on the research, immersion treatment with organic fertiliser was more optimal than without soaking treatment for the growth of pepper cuttings. The organic fertiliser immersion treatment got the best results at a concentration of 40 gram/L for the time of shoot emergence, 50 gram/L for the number of shoots and gram/L for shoot height. The concentration of 10 gram/L gave the best results on the parameters of observing the number of leaves, root length and number of roots. Keywords : Pipper (Piper nigrum L.), Concentration, Growth, Organic fertiliser
