Abstract

Hypertension is a degenerative disease that is the biggest cause of death in the world, 1 in 3 people in the world suffer from hypertension. It is estimated that the number of people with hypertension will continue to increase, namely 1.5 billion people in 2025. One of the risk factors for hypertension is lack of physical activity. This study aims to determine the relationship between physical activity and hypertension in workers during the Covid-19 pandemic in Indralaya District. The research method uses observational research with a cross sectional design. The sampling technique was carried out by purposive sampling, with a total of 100 samples. The results of the statistical test of physical activity on hypertension showed p-value = <0.0001 , PR 95% CI = 21.923 (7.057 - 68.105) or there was a relationship between physical activity and hypertension. Further analysis on multivariate between physical activity and hypertension showed p-value = <0.0001 with OR 95%CI = 24,289(4.683 – 125.986). This means that there is a significant relationship between physical activity and hypertension after being controlled by the variables of consumption of fatty foods, central obesity and sleep quality. The results of this study are expected to be a motivation for workers to always do physical activity for at least 30 minutes per day, because physical activity for at least 30 minutes for 5 days / week can prevent chronic diseases such as hypertension.
