Abstract
The Human Development Index (HDI) can be a measure in understanding the pattern of socio-economic development to assess the economic growth and development of a country. This research discussed the panel data regression model on the HDI in South Sumatra from 2016 to 2021. Individual and time specification effects of the panel data can explain the difference among the values of HDI in each region and period of time. The data used are secondary data from the BPS-Statistics of South Sumatra Province in the form of HDI, life expectancy, average length of schooling, expected length of schooling, population growth, percentage of poor people and open unemployment in all districts/municipalities in South Sumatra Province in 2016-2021. This research started with determining the best panel data regression model, testing the assumptions of the panel data regression model, testing the significance of the parameters and interpretation of the regression model. The conclusion of this research is that the best panel data regression model is using a Fixed Effect Model approach on individual specification effects with value of R2= 99,7%. Variables that have a significant effect for HDI are life expectancy, average length of schooling, expected length of schooling, and percentage of poor people. From the results of the analysis, it can also be found that the areas with the highest and lowest increases of HDI in South Sumatra Province in 2016-2021 are respectively North Musi Rawas districts and Pagaralam municipality.
