Abstract

The high number of COVID-19 cases had been a public concern which caused people to avidly searching for information related to COVID-19 through Google search. The dataset that had been saved will form a trend that has potential as digital surveillance if the data trend was associated with new cases of COVID-19. Therefore, a research about the correlation between google search trends and cases of COVID-19 should be conducted. This study was conducted to determine the relationship between Google search trends related to diagnosis and cases of COVID-19 in Indonesia. A mixed method studies with an explanatory design where quantitative research is used in this thesis, furthermore, pearson correlation is conducted to see the relationship between the variables. Research shown that there is a correlation between google search related to diagnostic test based on keywords swab (r = 0,787, p-value = 0,000) and antigen (r = 0,378, p value = 0,003) with COVID-19 new cases, and there is a correlation between google search related to diagnostic test based on keywords PCR,swab, and antigen with the number of COVID-19 testing (cumulative (r = 0,617, P-value = 0,000 (keywords PCR) , r = -0,337, p-value = 0,003 (keywords swab) , r = 0,228, p value = 0,077 (keywords antigen)), PCR (r = 0,648, P-value = 0,000 (keywords PCR), r = -0,330, p-value = 0,009 (keywords swab), r = 0,258, p value = 0,045 (keywords antigen)), and Antigen (r = 0,556, P-value = 0,002 (keywords PCR), r = -0,808, p-value 0,000 (keywords swab), r = -0,776, p value 0,000 (keywords antigen)). Google trend has the potential to be a tool for monitoring public behavior related to diagnosis that can be used as a reference for the government in making decisions regarding policies implemented as a strategy in controlling COVID-19 in Indonesia. Further study of Google Trends is required in order to strengthen the potential of Google Trends for monitoring COVID-19 cases in Indonesia.
