Abstract

One way to see the existence of discrimination, the burden of illness in certain groups, evaluate the success of treatment and health status and predict the need for health services in the future is to measure the quality of life. However, in this study it was found that children with HIV/AIDS in South Sumatra Province were more likely to have a poor quality of life than healthy children. This research is a quantitative type with a case control design using a ratio of 1:4. The research sample was divided into 2 groups: cases were ADHA and controls were non ADHA, totaling 61 people. The sampling technique was purposive sampling. Data analysis was carried out descriptively to see a description of the characteristics and family support compared to the quality of life in ADHA and Non-ADHA. The results showed that the majority of ADHA had poor quality of life (66.7%). When compared with poor quality of life, ADHA who have low parental education by 50%, abnormal nutritional status 16.7%, incomplete parents 50%, low family income 83.3%, have a history of disease 33.3% and low family support 66.7%. The Health Service and the Sriwijaya Plus NGO are expected to be able to educate and monitor nutritional status, hold regular meetings with the hope that children will get support from their peers.
