Abstract

STUDY OF THE GARDEN PLANTS USE AS TRADITIONAL MEDICINE BY SIDOMULYO VILLAGE’S PEOPLE, AT AIR KUMBANG SUB-DISTRICT BANYUASIN DISTRICT SOUTH SUMATERA. Indonesian people had been knowing and using plants as one of the medicinal ingredients in healing and preventing a diseases which been applied a long time ago before the modern medicine usage today. The plants are used as medicinal ingredients due to its chemical metabolite compound which been used by local people as herbal medicine. Medicinal plants are plants which its organs can be used as medicinal ingredients. Medicinal plants are commonly found in home yards, especially in rural communities. The diversity of medicinal plants in the yard is influenced by the needs of the community, socio-cultural and ecological factors. Sidomulyo is one of village at Air Kumbang District, Banyuasin Regency South Sumatra. that mostly the villagers use its yard plants as medicinal ingredients, the utilizing of plants as medicinal ingredients in Sidomulyo village was based on the factors of community needs. However, information on the used of garden plants as medicinal ingredients is still limited. The purpose of this study was to identify families, species, and types of plant habitus and to inventory of organ parts, processing methods and ways of usage garden plants that are used as traditional medicine by the community in Sidomulyo Village. The research was conducted from December 2021 to February 2022. The research used qualitative method with descriptive analysis. the sampling plots were determined by using the Stratified systematic sampling method. Sampling was carried out in 4 hamlets. In each hamlet, plots were took at intervals of every 3 houses in each sampling with a total sample of 20% (50 houses). Interviews were conducted using purposive sampling method to determine the criteria for certain informants. Data retrieval included the name of the species, type of habitus, organ parts, processing methods and methods of use. Data analyzed descriptively and displayed as tables and diagrams. Based on the results, it known that the composition of garden plants as medicinal ingredients in Sidomulyo Village, Air Kumbang District, Banyuasin Regency, South Sumatra. Consisted of 51 species of medicinal plants from 31 families which dominated by the Zingiberaceae family (18%) with herbs (39%) and trees (37%) as habitus with the highest percentage. The dominant organ parts used as medicinal ingredients are leaves (41%) with the most traditional medicine processing method being used was by boiling (65%), and the most used of the way to apply was by drinking (78%).
