Abstract

The current buildings tend to be more multi-storey and wide, this is because the existing land is getting narrower. The taller and wider the multi-storey building, the more things that must be considered in the building. One of the disturbances in tall and wide buildings is a lightning strike. Therefore it is necessary to consider protecting a building. This study aims to evaluate the lightning protection system installed using the electrogeometric method and to design a lightning protection system using the Rolling Sphere Method at the UPT TIK Student Center Sriwijaya University building. The results with the electrogeometric method on the UPT TIK building with 1 air termination installed, the striking distance is 125.59 meters with a protection angle of 58.87⁰ and a protection radius of 64.78 meters. From the results of this evaluation, it can be seen that there are still parts of the building that have not been optimally protected, so the design is carried out using the Rolling Sphere Method. In this design, it is known that 13 air terminations need to be added with a height of 1 meter and a total length of 587,64 meters and 4 down conductors with a total length of 48 meters.
