Abstract

The grounding system is an important component in the electric power system, because it removes excess current in the ground when a fault occurs. In some cases, such as mobile diesel generators, mobile substations, and other projects related to strong current electricity, a grounding system is required. More advanced developments require to use efficient tools so as not to waste energy, time, and money just to use a good grounding system and use it temporarily. The present study was to compare groups of electrodes wrapped in charcoal briquettes of different lengths and thicknesses with sandy and rocky soils. The results showed that the electrode wrapped with charcoal briquettes which had a length of 1m with a thickness of 4cm charcoal briquettes had a smaller grounding resistance compared to a length of 0.5m which had a thickness of 8cm charcoal briquettes with the lowest ground value of 203 Ω when compared to a long electrode of 0, 5m with a rated grounding resistance of 323 Ω.
