Abstract

Catfish farming produces organic and inorganic waste which will pollute the quality of the waters around the cultivation site. The utilization of catfish farming wastewater can be an effort to reduce pollution caused by the wastewater discharge. Porphyridium sp. is a microalgae that has the potential to be cultivated in catfish culture waste media. Catfish farming wastewater contains organic and anorganic materials that can be utilize. The nutrients commonly used for the cultivation of Porphyridium sp. come from pro-analyst fertilizer, one of which is Walne medium. This research aims to determine the right dose of Walne medium so that it can produce maximum density and the best specific growth rate. This research used Completely Randomized Design using five treatments and three replications. The treatment was given the difference in the dose of Walne for Porphyridium sp. cultivation which utilizes catfish farming wastewater. The dose given consisted of (P0) without Walne, (P1) 25%, (P2) 50%, (P3) 75%, (P4) 100%. The results showed that the administering different doses of Walne medium significantly affected the density of Porphyridium sp., daily growth rate and the value of BOD5 (Biochemical oxygen demand) reduction. The Walne medium dose of 50% was the best dose as seen from the results of the study which found the highest density, daily growth rate and BOD5 reduction value compared to other treatments.
