Abstract

Background: Scabies is a skin disease that is caused by sensitization and infestation of Sarcoptes scabiei var. hominis. This disease is spreading out from animal to animal, animal to human, and human to human, so scabies often be found in a full-citizen and dirty environment. One of the risk factor which is important in contributing to scabies incidences is personal hygiene. The objective of this research is to find out the correlation of personal hygiene and incidence of scabies in Al-Amalul Khair boarding school Palembang. Method: This research was an observational analytic with cross-sectional design. Samples on the research were the students of Al-Amalul Khair boarding school who fulfill the inclusion criteria. Data was taken using questionnaire for the personal hygiene and physical examination also anamnesis for scabies. Result: The total of subjects that have been observed are 182 samples. Scabies incidences that have been found are 48,4% and bad personal hygiene are 67,6%. All of the independent variables have been significantly related to scabies (p<0,05), except hand and nail hygienes also linen and bed hygienes (p>0,05). Then, multivariate analyze has proven that skin hygiene and towel hygiene become protective factor after interacting each other (p<0,05). Conclussion: There is a correlation between personal hygiene and incidence of scabies in students of Al-Amalul Khair boarding school Palembang.
