Abstract

Hypertension is one of the most common diseases suffered by the community. The relationship between obesity, smoking, coffee consumption, stress and sleep quality on the incidence of hypertension is still being debated. There are several studies which state that these factors are not associated with the incidence of hypertension, but other studies state that these factors are related. This study was conducted to determine whether there is a relationship between these factors and what factors are most dominantly associated with the incidence of hypertension. The study used an analytical survey method with a cross sectional approach. Sampling was done by non-probability sampling method through accidental sampling technique with a total sample of 228 respondents. The data analysis technique used is univariate analysis, bivariate using chi square test and multivariate using logistic regression analysis. The results showed that the most dominant variable associated with the incidence of hypertension was sleep quality with a p value of 0.0005 with a value of Exp (B) = 3.225. Variables related to the incidence of hypertension are obesity, coffee consumption, stress, and sleep quality because it has a p value <0.05. The variable that is not related to the incidence of hypertension is smoking. The better the quality of a person's sleep, the better his blood pressure will be. Health workers can further improve health promotion programs as an effort to reduce and control the incidence of hypertension through health promotion to the community.
