Abstract

Star hotels is one of the Tall Building that has the potential for fire. This indicates that the hotel should have a good fire emergency response procedure. As the event of ASIAN GAMES 2018 that will be held in Palembang City, the researcher wanted to know the description of knowledge and attitude related to fire emergency situation to the workers at X Hotel Palembang. The purpose of this research is to know the description of knowledge and attitude toward fire emergency response behavior to workers at X Hotel Palembang. The Design of this research is descriptive qualitative research. The data were collected through indepth interviews with informants consisting of 1 Security Manager, 1 Engineering Manager, 1 Housekeeper, and one visitor. The results showed that the management knew about the importance of facilities and infrastructure of fire emergency response, but submitted its implementation to the Emergency Respond Team. Emergency Respond Team (ERT) workers understand the importance of fire emergency response facilities and infrastructure and can implement them as they act as coordinators of an emergency fire response implementation. Regular employee who is not from the management team and ERT understand the emergency response based on the practices and experiences they have made during training and fire simulation at X Hotel Palembang. Three of them have the supportive attitude that were shown during the simulation of fires, such as being cautious about potential fire hazards, not panic in case of fire, following the evacuation instructions, and especially for ERT officers will as soon as possible perform the existing procedures. The researcher concludes that the knowledge of workers at X Hotel Palembang has different knowledge level and supportive attitude related to fire emergency situation. The researcher recommends that the hotel should consult with the occupational health and safety expert, use the communication tools such as Handy Talkie for ERT, and sterilize the fire assembly point so that it won’t be used as parking space.
