Abstract

Typhoid fever is one of bacterial infection disease that commonly found in developing countries like Indonesia. The highest incidence of typhoid fever was on the children. Medical treatment of typhoid fever can be done by assigning the appropriate antibiotics. The aim of this study was to identify use pattem of antibiotic in the treatment of typhoid fever in the installation of the child’s hospitalization of Siti Khadijah Hospital of Palembang. This study was a retrospective descriptive survey by using secondary data taken ffom the siti khadijah hospital of Palembang medical records. Based on data taken firom the siti khadijah hospital of Palembang medical records, the number of inpatients in the installation of the child’s hospitalization period January-june 2009 was 209 people with range of age 1-14 years, and all patients were given antibiotics. The most frequently use of antibiotics was sefalosporin third generation on 191 samples (91,4%). The largest percentage of frequency and dosed used was once daily of 1000 mg sefalosporin third generation by 46 samples (22%). The largest percentage of giving duration was sefalosporin third generation as long as 4 days by 69 samples (33%). The conclusion of this research was the most frequently use of antibiotic was sefalosporin third generation 1000 mg once daily as long as 4 days.
