Abstract

Energy is an element obtained from natural resources and used to meet all the needs of living things, especially humans in their daily lives. Existing energy sources are reduced, especially fossil-based energy such as coal and oil. To overcome this, it is necessary to diversify and conserve energy. The use of pico hydro turbines with energy from water flowing in clean water supply pipes as an energy source that has not been utilized so far is one of the steps in energy diversification suggested by the government. Euler turbine theory states that the torque on the shaft is equal to the change in the angular momentum of the water flow as it is deflected by the turbine blades and the power generated by the turbine is equal to the torque on the shaft multiplied by the rotational speed. This study aims to analyze the performance of the turbine to changes in flow rate so that it can be seen the operating conditions where the power and efficiency produced by the turbine get maximum results and get the turbine characteristic curve. This research was conducted using an experimental method by making a test instrument in the form of a power generation system using a pico hydro turbine. The water discharge varied in this study was 6; 6,7; 7.6; 8.3; 9.1 (L/min). The result data obtained from this research are P1 pressure 0.8 – 1.3 (bar) and P2 0.5-0.65 (bar). Turbine rotation speed 1546.1 – 2172.8 (rpm), voltage 12.03 -12.45 (V) and electric current 0.05 – 0.09 (A). So from these data, it can be determined that the water power obtained is 3 – 9.858 (W) and the turbine power is 0.602 – 1.121 (W). The resulting torque is 0.004 – 0.005 (N.m) and the efficiency of the test equipment is 11.37 – 20.05.
