Abstract

This study examines the social meaning contained in the mangongkal holi tradition in Panji Porsea Village Sitinjo II Subdistrict Dairi District,the purposea of this study was to determine the social processes and meanings in the mangongkal holi tradition carried out by the community in Panji Porsea Village. The method used in this research is descriptive qualitative. Observation, interviews and documentarion are data collection techniques used by researchers. The results study uses analytical tools, namely sosiology theory from George Herbet Mead. The results of this study indicate the process of the mangongkal holi tradition is to prepare the monument to place the bones and carry out the tonggo raja event. Then the implementation stage is to go the grave and then dig up the bones and put them into the monument which ends with a party celebration after insertingthe bones. Inside the monument there is a social meaning, namely the meaning of social recognition and the meaning of religion in the mangongkal holi tradition Keywords : Tradition, Mangongkal holi, Social Meaning
