Abstract
Background : Pneumonia is number one killer of under five year old children. Profile Data from Health Department Palembang in 2010 showed that 5.036 toodlers found to have pneumonia. Largest number of pneumonia in Palembang 2010 at in Merdeka Public Health Center Palembang. Pneumonia could be influenced by several factors such as age, gender, level of parental education, parental occupation status, density of residential homes, exposure to air pollution, behavioral factors and other risk factors. Objective : This aim of this study is to identify the Sociodemography Characteristics of Toddlers Pneumonia Patients in Merdeka Public Health Center Palembang. Methods : The method of this research is desciptive from primary data that obtained directly from toddlers parents with pneumonia. Result: The results showed that the numbers of Toddlers Pneumonia Patients in Merdeka Public Health Center Palembang from October to November 2011 was 26 toddlers. The Incident of toddlers pneumonia mostly happened in ages 2 months-2 years as big as 53.8%. The proportion of toddlers pneumonia incidents at boys (61.5%) greater than girls (38.5%). 50% parents of toddlers with pneumonia came from junior high school education background, whereas 57.7% was unemployed. 100% residential home of toddlers with pneumonia was ineligible, and 100% toddlers with pneumonia are often exposed to air pollution inside and outside home environment. Conclusions: The incident of pneumonia in toddler mostly happened in boys and 2 months-2 years of ages. Almost of the parents’s toddler with pneumonia from low education and socioeconomic profile. Ali of the toddler with pneumonia have ineligible residential home and often exposed to air pollution inside and outside home environtment.
