Abstract

Postpartum haemorrhage is the main cause of maternal mortality in Indonesia which reached 40-50% in 2006 (SDKI, 2006). In Palembang, postpartum haemorrhage incidence is 143 cases of 100.000 births in 2009. There are some risk factors indicated have relation with postpartum haemorrhage’s case, the factors such as age and occupation, gravide and parity’s status, birth weight, haemoglobin level, the first helper of labor, and cause of the bleeding itself. The purpose of this study was to know the characteristics of postpartum haemorrhage patients in RS Moehammad Hoesin Palembang during 1 January 2011-30 June 2012. The study was done by using descriptive study with case series design. Population of this study was postpartum haemorrhage patients who were hospitalized in RS Moehammad Hoesin Palembang. Sample of this study was all of the population which fulfilled the inclusion and exclusion criterias. The variables were obtained from patient’s medical record. From the studies were got 148 postpartum haemorrhage patients (3,43%) from 4313 total deliveries in RS Moehammad Floesin during the study period. The characteristics of postpartum haemorrhage patients in the study were; majority of patient’s age were between 20-35 years (72,3%); multigravid patients were 40,5%; multipara were 39,9%; majority of patient’s baby were 2500-4000 grams (86,5%); most of the patients had a low level of haemoglobin (29,1%); midwifes were the dominant first helper (90,5%); majority of the patients didn’t have a job or a housewife (91,9%); the main cause of the postpartum haemorrhage was retensio placenta (45,3%).
