Abstract

Introduction:Chronic Supurative Otitis Media (CSOM) is chronic inflammation of the middle ear with perforated tympanic membrane and clinical history of persisfeii drainage froiri the middle ear hiore than two moriffis. The disease was commonly caused hearing impairment. The hearing impairment can be vary due to type of CSOM, length of the disease, size and location of the tympanic membrane perforation. The aim of this study is to leam clinical presentation of tympanic membrane perforation and hearing impairment in CSOM patients at Dr. Mohammad Hoesin General Hospital, Palembang. Method: This study is an observational descriptive cross sectional at Otolaryngology Departement of Medieal Faculty of Sriwijaya University Dr. Mohammad Hoesin General Hospital, Palembang, sample was collected by consecutive sampling in period of July 2012 to Juli 2013. This study used patients’s medieal record. ResultsrFrom 49 sample of CSOM patients we found 72 identified ears. Central of tympanic membrane perforation was identified ih 71 ears (98,6%), attic perforation in one ear (1,4%) and marginal perforation was absent. Conductive hearing loss was 54 ears (75,0%), mixed hearing loss was 11 ears (15,3%), and sensoryneiiral hearing loss was 7 ears (9,7%). Mild hearing loss was 21 ears (29,2%), moderate hearing loss was 31 ears (43,1%), moderate-severe hearing loss was 10 ears (13,9%), severe hearing loss was 5 ears (6,9%), and profound hearing loss was 5 ears (6,9%). ConcIusion:Central of tympanic membrane perforation, conductive hearing loss, and moderate hearing loss were more commonly identified ih this study.
