Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui perbedaan produksi kelapa sawit (Elaeis guineensis jacq.) di lahan dan musim yang berbeda. Penelitian ini dilaksanakan bulan April 2012 sampai dengan bulan September 2012 di Perkebunan PTPN VII, Unit Usaha Betung Krawo dan PT Hindoli (Cargill Company), Estate Sungai Tungkai, Sumatera Selatan. Progeni atau asal benih yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini yaitu benih PPKS Medan (Marihat) untuk perkebunan PTPN VII dan benih ASD Costarica untuk perkebunan PT Hindoli. Parameter yang diamati adalah tinggi tanaman, lilit batang, panjang pelepah, panjang anak daun, dan data produksi kelapa sawit serta data curah hujan daerah setempat. Data primer dan sekunder dianalisis secara tabulasi serta dijelaskan secara deskriptif dari tiap-tiap jenis lahan dan waktu musim yang berbeda. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa produksi pada PTPN VII di lahan kering lebih tinggi dan lebih stabil dibandingkan di lahan basah. Hal ini disebabkan kondisi pada lahan basah mengandung senyawa pirit yang bersifat racun bagi tanaman. Sedangkan pada PT Hindoli menunjukkan produksi di lahan basah lebih tinggi dibandingkan lahan kering. Hal ini disebabkan oleh suplai air di lahan basah lebih banyak dibandingkan lahan keringnya.
