Abstract
Premature rupture of membrane (PROM) is rupture of amniotic membrane before labor. This is one of causes of neonatal asphyxia. Prevalence of neonatal asphyxia is still a serious problem and it is also the most cause of babys mortality in Indonesia. The aim of this study was to know the prevalence of asphyxia in PROM patients with a term pregnancy in RSMH Palembang. Method: This was an observational descriptive study using medical record data in obstetric and gynecologic department of RSMH Palembang during January 2012-December 2012. Result: There were 227 cases of PROM. Amoung all of the 10,6%, cases suffered asphyxia. The incident of asphyxia in premature rupture of membrane based on mothers age was about 37,5% in <20 years old, 37,5 % in 20-35 years old, and (25%) in >35 years old. Based on parity history, there was 58,3% in nullipara, 29,2% in primipara and (12,5 %) in multipara. Based on babys birth weight, there was 54,2% in 2500-2999 grams, 37,5% in 3000-3499 grams, 8,3% in 3500-4000 grams and no case found in >4000 grams. The second stage of labor that occured in less than 1 hour was about 12,5% and the second stage of labor that occured in more than 1 hour was about 87,5%. Conclusion: Amoung all of the 10,6%, cases suffered asphyxia, the most of asphyxia found in mothers whose age was <20 years old and 20-35 years old, nullipara (58,3%), babies whose weight was 3000-3499 grams, and the second stage of labor in more than 1 hour.
