Abstract

This research is entitled "Representation of Social Status in the TV Series Black Mirror: Nosedive (Analysis of Semiotics of Charles Sanders Peirce's Model)". The purpose of this research is to discuss the representation of social status in the episode. In this research, several scenes showed how the issue of social status is represented by the characters. This research uses descriptive qualitative method, with research data obtained from the results of literature review, documentation studies and structured interviews. The author uses the theory of Semiotics model of Charles Sanders Perice and divides the analysis through three levels of trichotomy. The results showed that; First, the nosedive episode describes a human life whose worthiness is assessed through a rating system. Second, with the rating system, there are consequences for every action someone does that can affect their social status. Third, the existence of a rating causes social interaction to be distrupted.
