Abstract

Background: Traditional medicine in Indonesia is still a preferred altemative for the community in general. One is the treatment of inflammatory bowel disease (barah Tau) done for generations by the people of Lake Ranau. The study aims is to determine the antibacterial effect of traditional herbal infusa the Lake Ranau in inhibiting the growth of a bacteria that causes intestinal inflammation, namely Escherichia coli. The study also aims to determine the minimum inhibitory concentration. Methods: This study is experimental in vitro laboratory using traditional herbs infusa Lake Ranau people to be tested against cultured Escherichia coli ATTC 25922 using Muller Hilton agar diffusion discs in a variety of different concentrations infusa. Antibacterial activity was measured from the diameter of inhibition zone is formed. Results: There was no clear zone around the disc that contains the traditional herbal infusa Lake Ranau concentration of 100%, 80%, 60%, 40%, 20%, 10%, and 5%. While the average value of the clear zone as a positive control Ciprofloxacin is 35 mm. Conclusion: Traditional herbal infusa Lake Ranau people have no antibacterial activity against Escherichia coli cultures in vitro.
