Abstract

Swamp buffalo is a type of large ruminant livestock that has a number of advantages that are beneficial to local communities, but unfortunately buffalo have not received enough attention by the Indonesian people in general. The aim of this study was to analyze the daily behavior of the swamp buffalo (Bubalus bubalis carabanesis). The results of this study are expected to provide information and data availability to the wider community about the daily activities of the Swamp Buffalo (Bubalus bubalis carabanesis) in Tanjung Senai, Sakatiga, Kec. Indralaya, Ogan Ilir Regency, South Sumatra. This research was conducted in January-March 2022. The type of research is descriptive observational and data were collected using the Focal Animal Sampling method. The semi-intensive buffalo rearing system at different ages and genders shows that there are differences in the behavior of each buffalo from Eating Behavior (Ingestive), Group Tendency Behavior and Bonding to the Same Activity (Alelomimetic), Conflicting, Fighting, and Avoiding Behavior (Agonistic). Behavior of Seeking Shelter (Shelter Seeking), Behavior of Self-Care (Grooming) and Behavior of Disposing of Dirt (Eliminative). The most dominant behavior in male and female buffaloes of all ages is eating behavior, while behavior that is rarely carried out by male and female buffaloes of all ages is Agonistic behavior.
