Abstract

Diarrhea is one of the health problems in Indonesia. This is due to the high number of diarrheal diseases that cause major deaths in children under five. The incidence of diarrhea in children under five in the working area of the primary health center was 580. The Incidence Rate (IR) was 43.3%. The incidence of diarrhea has risen to 630 in 2020, with a 51.4% incidence rate (IR). Environmental factors, especially poor sanitation, can cause a toddler to get diarrhea. This study aims to determine the relationship between basic home sanitation and the incidence of diarrhea in children under five in the working area of the primary health center. The research method in this study used an observational design with a cross-sectional approach. The sample in this study were mothers who had toddlers (aged 0–59 months) who experienced diarrhea and resided in the working area of the Pemulutan Induk Public Health Center. The sampling technique used was purposive sampling. Statistical analysis using the chi-square test The results showed that the incidence of diarrhea in toddlers was 15 respondents (19.5%) and those who did not experience diarrhea were 62 respondents (80.5%).), latrine sanitation had no relationship with (p = 0.825), waste disposal facilities had no relationship with (p = 0.835), and waste water disposal facilities had a relationship with (p = 0.835). It is recommended that health workers further improve counseling on basic sanitation to the community to help them lead a healthy life in order to avoid various kinds of diseases, especially diarrhea.
