Abstract

Lead (Pb) exists from motor vehicle batteries. The Public Fuel Filling Station (SPBU) in Keramasan District is one of the places with a high level of lead exposure, due to the large number of vehicles entering and leaving for refueling. This caused the gas station workers to be exposed to lead in the air and affected their health problems, one of which was insomnia. The purpose of this study is to analyze the correlation between lead (Pb) levels in hair and individual characteristics with the insomnia incidence of gas station workers in the Keramasan District. This study uses a descriptive-analytic research design with a cross-sectional approach. The sample in this study amounted to 34 gas station workers who were determined by the purposive sampling technique. The data is analyzed by univariate and bivariate with the Chi-Square test. The results of the Chi-Square test in the bivariate analysis showed that there was a correlation between exposure to lead levels in hair (p-value = 0.004), smoking habits (p-value = 0.010), and consuming milk habits (p-value = 0.005) with the incidence of insomnia of gas station workers. It can be concluded that there is a correlation between lead levels in hair, smoking habits, and milk consumption habits of gas station workers in the Keramasan District. To reduce the occurrence of insomnia, what needs to be fixed is to be disciplined in wearing PPE, implementing a healthy lifestyle such as reducing smoking habits, exercising, eating nutritious foods, increasing milk consumption, and spending time wisely to get enough sleep and sleep early at night
