Abstract

Stunting is a condition of long-term malnutrition caused by a lack of nutritional intake for a long time and as a result of feeding that is not following the needs that cause children to fail to achieve their linear growth potential. Parents who find that their child is stunted will be a stressor and pressure on the family. Family responses that do not adapt tend to result in suboptimal development. The condition of the family in response to situations or difficulties faced in the family is called family resilience. Objective: To analyze family resilience in parents who have stunting toddlers in Muaro Jambi Regency. Methods: Qualitative research with a phenomenological approach using in-depth interviews, Focus Group Discussion, and observation methods. The data analysis used is taxonomic analysis. The validity of the data using the triangulation method. The informants in this study were 18 parents who had stunting toddlers in Muaro Jambi Regency. Results: This study shows that almost all parents and families of stunting toddlers in Muaro Jambi Regency interpret stunting as a trial and transcendence that must be overcome together, to produce resilience that is more focused on overcoming stunting problems. In addition, changes in adapting positively to the role and interaction of each family member of stunting toddlers in Muaro Jambi Regency make their families more resilient in overcoming household problems, especially stunting problems. Clear communication with parents and family can also encourage parents to open up emotionally, both negative and positive, which in turn encourages collaborative problem-solving. Conclusion: In dealing with household problems, parents of stunting toddlers in Muaro Jambi Regency have implemented quite good coping strategies. Certainly, a good enough strategy can create strong resilience in the family, but there are still inappropriate coping strategies because they clash with the declining habits of the local area.
