Abstract

Cataract is lens opaque which contributes to the main cause of blindness and Vision disorder. In Indonesia, the prevalence of cataract is quite high (approximately 4,99%). Each region has a different prevalence of cataract and not cill regions have had cataract prevalence data. Therefore, the goals of this research are to fmd out the prevalence, risk factors, and causes of cataract especially on Kecamatan Ilir Timur 2 Kota Palembang in 2012. This research is analytical survey which uses cross sectional as the method and uses primary data inci t/ding people aged 40 years old or more. The r e are 78 respondents who hci\>e fulfilled the inclusion and exclusion criterias after i/ndergoing anamnesis and physical examination. The prevalence of cataract in this research, on Kecamatan Ilir Timur 2 Kota Palembang in 2012, is 49,0%. The statisiic test result prove that correlation between cataract and advanced age is present and signif/cant. However, the statisiic test resu/is prove that there i s no signif/cant correlation between cataract and those risk factors st/ch as gender, herediteary’ factor, smoking, alcohol consumption, glaucoma, ocular infection, trauma, myopia, hypertension, diabetes mellitus, drt/gs, ultraviolet exposure, and body mass index. So, in this research, the advanced age is the only risk factor which significantly correlate to cataract.
