Abstract
Introduction: Nutritional status is a measurement about the condition of person's body. Underweight is a lack of nutrienis required by the body. Underweight among children will make them weafc, fatigue, easily sleepy, and less passionate that will reduce their concentration to study, this situation will affect their intelligence and academic achievement. The objective of this study is to determine the correlation of nutritional status with academic achievement in children at 138/VIII elementary school Sungai Bengkal. Method: This study was an observasional analytic descriplive study with cross sectional design using consecutive sampling technique during October - November 2013. Datas collectedfi om were 115 children. Result: This study showed that respondents with underweight status had less academic achievement were 49 people (42.60%). Respondents with underweight status who had a good academic achievement were 8 people (7.00%). Respondents with normal nutritional status had better academic achievement that found in 46 people (40.00%). Respondents with normal nutritional status who had less academic achievement were 12 people (10.40%). Chi-Square tesi result showed there was a significant correlation between nutritional status and academic achievement in children. (p=0,000:OR=23,48:CI=96%). Conclusion: There was a correlation between nutritional status and academic achievement, children who were underweight had risk factor 23.48 t i mes t o have less academic achievement.
