Abstract

Introduction: Tuberculosis (TB) in children remains an Indonesian health problem. This disease can be prevented by giving Bacille Calmette-Gu￡rin (BCG) immunization to children as early as possible. BCG immumzation coverage in Indonesia has reached 98.1% in January 2011 to April 2012. This study was conducted to determine the history of BCG immunization in children With tuberculosis. Method: This study is an descriptive observational with cross sectional approach. Population in this study is all children with TB in January 2011 to July 2013 at Pediatrics Department of General Hospital Dr. Mohammad Hoesin Palembang. There are 54 samples. Results: In 36 children with a history of BCG immunization, 28 children (77.7%) suffered from pulmonary tuberculosis and 8 children (33.3%) had extra pulmonary TB. BCG obtained by many children who are in the age group 10 - <15 years, 13 children (36.1%). More girls get BCG immunization (19 children) than the boy. 50% of children had poor nutritional status. BCG immunized children who have had contact with other TB patients was 13 (36.1%). Children of parents with secondary school education level are the highest, amounting to 13 children (36.1%). Laborer/farmer /fisherman were the most commonly find (55.6%). Conciusion: In 36 children (66.7%) who had a history of BCG immunization were still suffering from tuberculosis.
