Abstract
During the pandemic of COVID-19, hospitals being the forefront of responsibility in providing the patients. Nurses’ compliance in implementing health protocols is very important during the pandemic of COVID-19, one of which is maintaining hand hygiene by washing hands or by using hand sanitizers. Pandemic of COVID-19 has had an impact on the excessive use of hand sanitizer. The chemical ingredients in the hand sanitizer can cause skin irritation if used by continuously. The purpose of this study is to analyze the factors associated with the occurrence of irritant contact dermatitis due of the using hand sanitizer during COVID-19 pandemic on of Siti Fatimah Hospital. This research was a quantitative study with a cross sectional. The statistical tests used was Fisher Exact tests. The sample of this study were 41 nurses. The diagnosis of irritant contact dermatitis is determined by the results of the doctor's history. The data collection tool used was a questionnaire. The results showed that the respondents who experienced irritant contact dermatitis were 12.2%. Variables that have a significant are a history of skin disease (p value=0,014), the type of hand sanitizer (p value=0,039 and frequency of used of hand sanitizer (p value=0,028). Variables that have no relationship are age (p value=0.336), gender (p value=0,645) and duration of used of hand sanitizer (0,663). It can be concluded that the factors associated with the occurrence of irritant contact dermatitis in nurses at Siti Fatimah Hospital are a history of skin disease and the type of hand sanitizer. The unrelated factors were age and gender. Suggestions for this study are to reduce the risk of irritant contact dermatitis, nurses should use alcohol-free hand sanitizers or those containing natural ingredients such as betel leaf and others.
