Abstract
INTRODUCTION: The uncomplele prevalence data of the use of oral contraceptives method i n Palembang for the period 2010. W e need a complete survey on the level of contraceptive use in each district from year to year and the factors associated with this use to help governmenl programs to improve contraceptive use. appropriate for the community. The objectives of this research are to access the prevalence of consumption of oral contraceptives and to identify factors associated with this oral contraceptives methods among currently married women of reproductive age group (20-45 year s) in District Sematang Borang Palembang. METHODS: A community based cross-sectional design has been done at Puskesmas Sematang Borang Palembang. J t took 375 data of currently married women of reproductive age group (20-45 years). Information regarding sociodemographic factors and the participation of free-medical assurance. The data was taken from medical records (secondary data). The data was cmalyzed with univariate analysis, which is the frequency distribution of the respondents, bivariate analysis, which is the Chi-Square tesi, and multivariate analysis which is the binaiy logistic regression. RESULTS: The prevalence of oral contraceptives method was 66.4%. From bivariate analysis, only the participation of free-medical assurance is significantly associated with use of oral contraceptives method (p=0.022, OR = 1.706). Final multiple logistic regression analysis showed that 2 variables which associate with use of oral contraceptives method: age (p=0.049, OR= 1.677) and the participation of free-medical assurance (p-0.023, OR =1.680). The participation of free-medical assurance is the strongest factor which associate with use of oral contraceptives method (p=0.023, OR=1.680, 95% C/= 1.075-2.627). CONCLUSION: The practice of oral contraceptives method in District Sematang Borang Palembang is high. The participation of free-medical assurance factor of women was significantly associated with use of oral contraceptive methods. Men and women education and promolion of various issues relaled to family planning and reproductive health may be helpful in creating more awareness in this district.
