Abstract

Background: Osteoarthritis (OA) is one of the most common rhenmaiic diseases that affects elderly and cause disability. Knee is a part of body which most ffequently affected by OA. One of the symptomatics treatment for OA is Microwave Diathermy (MWD). Objective: To determine the comparison of Activity of Daily Living (ADL) score in osteoarthritis patients before and after MWD therapy. Methods: Case series study with before and after treatment design has been done at Medical Rehabilitation Division of RSUP Eh*. Mohammad Hoesin Palembang from November to December 2013. There were 33 subjects who fulfilled inclusion criteria. Ali data were obtained from the results of interviews with patients using Knee Outcome Survey Activities of Daily Living Scale (KOSADLS) and analyzed by paired t-tests using SPSS version 21.0. Results: Based on age, the most common age group was >60 years old (57,6%) with mean was 62,52 years old. Female (66,7%) and homemaker (54,5 %) were the most common group affected by OA based on sex and occupation. Based on body mass index (BM1), the most common BMI group was obesity grade 1 (42,4%) with mean was 25,5340 kg/m2. Mean of the difference score ADL before and after MWD therapy was 11,788 ± 3,471 points and /t<0,05 with 95% confidence interval. Conclusions: There was a significant difference of ADL score before and after at least 5 times treatment using MWD in 2 weeks period.
